Desierto case against Erap makes for easy acquittal- Sandiganbayan says as it send back documents. Also, Ombudsman sent case with pages lacking. Whats up guys? Looking for a technical charge to get Erap off the hook?. Fire this guy before he sacrifices the nation for a bagful of silver? Desierto also refused help from the private prosecutors. His underling at the Ombudsman's office also tried to reject outright the filling of private lawyers cases against more than a dozen cronies, claiming that some have immunity. Something's cooking folks, and it sure don't smell good. Hey Ani, whatever these monkeys are offering you, IT AIN'T WORTH IT.

It should be sending shudders
up everyone's spine that the very same people who have decided to throw the book at former BIR Commissioner and Ambassador Bienvenido Tan Jr. are also the same people who are notorious for kowtowing to the powers that be and are, which is even more dangerous, publicity hounds. The scenario being set up is indeed a fearful one. This is a scene right out of 1983. With all his posturing and acting, one would think Aniano Desierto (where was he during the Marcos years?) is getting ready to fight the big fight. But he has done the publicity spiels before, and yet has managed to let all the other "big fish" slip away due to alleged flimsy evidence. Of late, it seems he has been finding all these convenient excuses to delay the trial further. Anyone who drums up all this publicity yet has nothing to show for it at this point may be setting us up for a possible disappointment. But hey, like EDSA1, EDSA2 was just too easy. And the tyrants still rule the banana republic. And so the story goes.

Let's make a deal or, for your Lenten Week reflections...

Here, meditate on this:
How many senatorial candidates have we heard speak about the evils of cronyism, like the crimes
against the People of the Philippines by those who would corrupt, like Lucio Tan, manny pangilinan, Dante Tan and many more ? Is it because the campaigns will not run without some contributions? So EDSAII was about allowing these candidates to get more campaign contributions?

the new elagda

In the spirit of transparency, you may want to ask these simple yet unanswered questions:
How many cronies are now state witnesses?
When a crony turns into a state witness and is given immunity, does that mean he gets to keep all the money he stole?
Will taxpayer money be used to pay for his protection and lifestyle?

Did they give almost all the cronies immunity and yet allow the Ombudsman to file only a single plunder case? Will we ever get to see any the documents signed on behalf of the People of the Philippines?

For Holy Week, may we recommend Job 38 from the OT, especially for the self-righteous ones out there.

Movie banned for reflecting hardship in the Island Republic of Bananas? Well, at least there were no banana cutter scenes shown. Funny though that the church, which is responsible in a big way for the gross overpopulation asked the Palace to shut down a movie that could serve as a wake-up call to Filipinos on the hardships poverty brings. Many of our countrymen are enjoined to have numerous offspring yet are not capable of feeding them 3x a day. This movie bespeaks the evils of our society. Who is to blame? Ask the men in robes. A blow by blow (no pun intended) account on the movie's specs. Technicals, Toro Movie (T.T.Mo.). This is one pirated disk you should buy and share, I was told.)

PLDT.Com seeks firing squad for Mad Cow hairdresser.
Is she using Manoling's wig or is that a cunning disguise? That is the question posed daily in coffee shops around the Metropolis.

Police, NBI still searching for 8mm.
Miriam had claimed that she carries an 8mm pistol for protection against well, just about everyone at this point. So far, the investigators have only come up with Super 8, not a pistol, but a video camera that dates back top the 70's. So please, nobody tell her that the "gun" she thinks she is carrying is just a video camera. We hope to reduce campaign violence so let's start with this one.

Mad cow lady makes declaration; Morato applies for lease of the entire Luneta Park for a day.
In the light of a senatorial candidate's willingness to get shot if a bet she made was lost, her former adversary asked Manila City Hall for permission to sell tickets to the execution. Mad cow lady hats, T-shirts and hairpieces are also to be sold at the festival.

Morato campaigns to censor all the words in the dictionary that have anything to do with sex. A prime target in his censorship drive is the often seen 201 form. Although job application forms also contain these letters, because of Marcos, Erap and their common friends, there are hardly any jobs available here, so these forms are rarely used. It was alleged that Morato was referring to the entry of the word Sex seen in many forms and questionnaire. He claimed that these forms were too titillating and would cause the breakdown of morals in the Philippines, a country that just had a President with about twenty wives, gambles and drank heavily. Apparently, THAT was OK with him. The forms, though, have to go if this guy is voted in.

If you think times are hard now, wait till after the elections.
The fallout from Erap's bad governance is quite obvious as the dollar rate closes to nearly 50 pesos. The good news is that a Republican President Bush is now more than willing to bring back arms and soldiers into the region. This news will make hundreds of pokpoks happy. It was reported that preparing to meet the GI Joes at the landing port of their choice was the famous dancing lady of the Senate. She claimed to have heard the other balato twin say, "Once you go black, you'll never go back."

"Just freeing up some space in our congested local jails" was the official excuse the government gave to explain the release of man-eater Manero and the non-arrest of Erap and his ilk. The problem with this policy is that for as long as the man and all his friends responsible for this mess are scot-free, no foreign investor will dare put a single centavo into the local economy. Simple, plain, and clear to everyone--except the lawyers.

Pro-Anti groups argued, however, contending that Manero's being a cannibal would have corrected this situation.
But Manero's lawyer reportedly chastised them by saying that "a man can only eat so much. And besides, he likes white meat."

Amazon forest denudation blamed on Philippine politicians.
FORMER Senator, EX-Cabinet Secretary, and ONE WEEK-termer as Executive Secretary Angara--whose wife actually had riot police beat back Ambassadors and respected Filipinos to prevent them from watching a play in the Cultural Center ( HA! and you thought Cardinal Sin was a censor)--claimed that the present campaign move of his political party, nicknamed STOP HELL was actually giving jobs to Indonesians and Brazilians in the logging industry, thereby improving foreign relations.

GetThePoint.Com
Filipinos are now merrily bashing the movie industry, and media is feeding on an easy story.
Cast: A Cardinal who dictates policy; a government that occasionally follows the dictated policy.
While the country focuses on this trivial matter, the bigger issues are left unchallenged by Philippine society. The rising prices of commodities, the non-prosecution of thieves and scalawags, rising drug use, etc. One bright aspect is pointed out by an e-mail sent from an heretofore unknown address, that reported that the quality of local dope has dramatically improved. Which makes one wonder: Where was the good stuff during the fat man's reign? Was he 'bogarting' even that joint? If so, then that would account for his frequent intake of rich food.

DOT.PHoeyyy It turns out that the local distributor of the .ph (for Philippines) domain, a certain Joel Disini, has allegedly been slightly remiss in giving out receipts and has succeeded in antagonizing most everyone on the Internet these days. A jump from P900 to a USD70 (with exchange rate last year of P50:1) for two years has discouraged local users from registering using their own country as the third level domain. If their marketing gurus are to believed, the .ph domain means phone, and not our beloved banana republic anymore. Angry local users getting together to complain before the ITECC Legal Cluster. BUT WAIT !! It turns out that a member of the Legal counsel for the ITECC Cluster is no less than Joel's brother, JJ. Great script, cast of thousands. Bring your own popcorn. BOI in Buendia 2PM Friday 16 March 01.

It's official: He's a CRONY !!

No less than the Senate itself was victimized by agents of the PAOCTF and employees of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company. Yet to date, even after it was revealed that the same characters were back to bugging the Administration's Senatorial candidates, nothing has been done about the matter.

Tatad's "referred pain" plan exposed.
It was revealed yesterday that Senator Kit Tatad is behind the text and email propaganda war being waged against Senator Miriam "Cambridge" Santiago. Tatad's political team has been deflecting all the flak against Tatad to the other Senators in order to save his neck. It was revealed that Tatad, a faux Holy Man, has now to find a church that will give him access to a service. Miriam had no comment as she was rushing off to C.M. Recto to have her newest diploma "framed".
