| How
these so-called "leaders" dare call themselves
Filipinos is beyond me. The real Filipino showed in the
manner in which the Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines
refused to kill their brother Filipino, realizing that doing
so would only play into the hands of those who wish us evil.

So
he finally made it to the big league.
Right up there with Idi Amin, Papa Doc Duvalier, Slobodan Milosevich,
and Suharto, PLDT's god. Regardless of what his mob of even a trillion
people says, it is time to go to court and face the music. PAOCTF detention
center jailbirds are allegedly reporting screams at night from a voice
yelling "CUT!! CUT!!"

Tickler!! At P500/head plus P50x3
for meals, the cost to a professional manghahakot politician for
each spectator could rise to as much as P13,000,000 a day for say,
twenty thousand people. Let's throw in P1,000,000 for transportation
and misc. expenses. Now pretend someone took 1.2 Billion from the
cookie jar. He could keep these people there for at least three
more months. |

Before anyone else thinks of it,
we have filed for the TM Banana Republic-that's us. Yes yes, a hurrah
for the forward thinkers.
Amazing Facts Jailed
ex-president Erap Estrada, who keeps chanting the poor is my friend
mantra, has never known what it was like to be poor. Nor has he championed
any cause for the poor. Unless one will consider monopolizing jueteng
something a person with sympathies for the poor would do.
Instead, Estrada is now in jail for stealing from an entire country.
It is fascinating to watch his lawyers and ever-loyal partymates mouth
the "the poor are the victims" line. Anything for some pity
and support, I guess, no matter how bizarre the line. But it is amazing
how such lines seem to go a long way when it comes to some of our "masa".
Where does this ignorance come from, who is to blame for it? The "rifles
not milk" economic policy of previous administrations may be part
of the problem. Thing is, these are the jologs, who are part of the
real poor in our society. Allegedly, the crowd at EDSA is composed mostly
of the Peso300-500/day type of poor who run on a daily toke of their
shabs, and get their kicks defacing property and kicking in sides of
cars passing by EDSA. And so it goes as the trapos go and stir up the
hornet's nest once more. The old politicians play games with all these
people to achieve a selfish motive, --to get elected by virtue of pity
votes. But there may be some price to pay for inciting to rebellion
and sedition. If this government has decided to take the battle for
the ascendance of morality in the country seriously. The Army and police
have been doing their jobs so far. Faith in a larger number of officers
and men has definitely risen as they have shown themselves to be true
professionals. Yet while Trapos continue to play their sick mind games
at the expense of the majority, we may yet see a plot unfold itself.
Unfortunately, this was not part of their plan. So it looks like the
Republic of Bananas will be winging it from here on. The stock market,
although not seeing capital flight, has decided to go on a selling spree
in anticipation of a worsening scenario at EDSA. It is near midnight
and there are now more people at the Shrine than ever. It should be
interesting to see how this unfolds.
Minutes from
a hearing:
24 April 2001 More comedy
from the best and the brightest; as only PLDT Telco can provide.
Yet again, the country's telecommunication
monopoly and self-proclaimed masters of the convergence today failed
to meet the standards their advertisements speak so often about. They
failed to produce the correct length of telephone cable for the court
hearing. My guess- they needed more time to prepare, it is sad that
they only had a whole month to splice five feet of telephone cord. The
RTC at Sala 90 was sounding a bit irritated than usual as once again,
the fourth time, actually, (but hey, could be third or fifth--it happens
so often we lose count) the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. failed
to bring some length of telephone wire for their online presentation
to the court. It seems almost impossible to think that this is the same
company who can carry out a task that takes some intelligence, like
wiretapping for instance, but maybe they didn't actually do the wiretapping
(they only supplied the lines?). No mistaking the funnyshadeofmaroon
trucks as they roll into the QC court parking lot and teams of techies
swarm into the courtroom to prepare to install their setup. Of course,
they will wait till court officially starts to begin setting up. No
forward planning for the country's most efficient and converged telco.
Not half an hour before, or even 15 minutes in preparation. They will
wait for the Judge to come in and then make the whole courtroom wait.
When any job begins like this you know it's gonna be fun and games once
again soon as the problems that come with hastily-prepared projects
start to show. This time the Judge was seriously considering his options,
as they seemed to be literally mocking him. But hey, they are the PLDT
phone company, after all. They seem to "own" the right to
piss of any/all Filipinos. It's a cultural thing. It's like our lives
were meant to have this particular utility around to make us suffer,
to remind us of our days under the Spanish colonizers and the American
imperialists. They hold the key to your accessing the world via phone
communications and strut about like you owe them your life for it. Much
like Marcos when he lifted Martial Law. After kicking us in the teeth,
he broke our legs, and we were supposed to be grateful to him for doing
so. Duh, I say.
Today we finally heard the official reason for PLDT's failure to register
the .com- they had other, higher priorities. As their expert
newly promoted, (rewarded, whatever) witness stated--they were too busy
setting up for the "rollout" and preparing for the "giant
convergence" whatchmacallit to be bothered with having to register
a domain name. That would have to wait till later. Much later actually,
was maybe what they really meant. For it was not till years later that
they suddenly remembered that they wanted to register their dotcom.
And this was not even on the agenda as it was another fellow, some insurance
dude- Pollie de los Santos was his name if I recall right- who reported
to manny pangilinan about the pldt.com website. Ah yes, I distinctly
remember Pollie. The witness who swore--under oath--that he had no business
dealings with Pangilinan Inc. et al.
So after all his ranting and raving on the witness stand it was our
turn to question him. And it turns out he sits on the board, no less,
of Bonifacio Land or one of those many companies they own. Oops!
He had this indescribable look on his face when defense lawyer Teddy
Cruz showed him the SEC papers with his name and shareholdings on it.
Let's see. How red can a human face get? I wonder what the Philippine
Justice system has to say about people who lie on the witness stand.
Isn't that what Erap lawyer Serapio did? Hey, ain't he the guy in jail
now? Anyway, back to Pollie and his funny testimony. Pollie had earlier
also testified--under oath--that he had typed pldt.com and was amazed
kuno that he didn't find manny's photo there, but instead saw a different
pldt.com (the real one, as we like to call it).

Despite Kaimo's
uncharacteristic call for help via the media, the DTI-ITECC-Legal Cluster
stood pat on it's two-week deadline for all complaints regarding the
dotPH issue. DTI ASEC Monsod failed to comment on the vital matter of
JJ Disini's dual role as counsel to his brother Joel,
who owns dotPH, the company in question, and as counsel to ITECC-Legal
Cluster Counsel, the body supposed to investigate the dotPH controversy.
Another point being raised by viewers who wrote this editor question
how Ms. Janette Torral, a non-lawyer, can head the ITECC Legal
Cluster. All members of the ITECC-Legal were handpicked by Torral.
She has repeatedly defended her appointment of Disini as the official
legal advisor, and has been sidestepping any direct requests for her
to reevaluate this appointment for months.

Desierto case against Erap makes for easy acquittal?-- Sandiganbayan
unhappy says as it returns documents to Ombudsman. Ombudsman had also
reportedly sent case with vital pages missing. What's up guys? Looking
for a technical charge to get Erap off the hook? Shouldn't somebody
fire this guy before he sacrifices the nation for a bagful of silver?
Desierto had previously refused help from private prosecutors, claiming
his office could handle the Erap case, no sweat. But just this week
his underling at the Ombudsman's office also tried to reject outright
the filing of cases against more than a dozen cronies by a group of
private lawyers. He claims the cronies now have immunity. Something's
cooking folks, and it sure don't smell good. Hey Ani, whatever these
monkeys are offering you, IT AIN'T WORTH IT.
(a
previous editorial) It should be sending shivers up
everyone's spine that the very same people
who have decided to throw the book at former BIR Commissioner and Ambassador
Bienvenido Tan Jr. are also the same people who are notorious for kowtowing
to the powers that be and are rabid publicity hounds. The scenario being
set is indeed a fearful one. This is a scene right out of 1983. With all
his posturing and acting, one would think Aniano Desierto (where was he
during the Marcos years?) is getting ready to fight the big fight. But
he has done the publicity spiels before, and yet has managed to let all
the other "big fish" slip away due to alleged flimsy evidence.
Of late, it seems he has been finding all these convenient excuses to
delay the trial further. Anyone who drums up all this publicity yet has
nothing to show for it at this point may be setting us up for a possible
disappointment. But hey, like EDSA1, EDSA2 was just too easy. And the
tyrants still rule the banana republic. And so the story goes.
Let's make a deal or, for your Lenten Week reflections...
Here, meditate
on this:
How many senatorial candidates have we heard speak about the evils of
cronyism, like the crimes against the People of the Philippines
by those who would corrupt, like Lucio Tan, manny
pangilinan, Dante Tan and many more ? Is it because the campaigns will
not run without some contributions? So EDSAII was about allowing these
candidates to get more campaign contributions?
In
the spirit of transparency, you
may want to ask these simple yet unanswered questions:
How many cronies are now state witnesses?
When a crony turns into a state witness and is given immunity, does that
mean he gets to keep all the money he stole?
Will taxpayer money be used to pay for his protection and lifestyle?
Did they give
almost all the cronies immunity
and yet allow the Ombudsman to file only a single plunder case? Will
we ever get to see any the documents signed on behalf of the People
of the Philippines?
For
Holy Week, may we recommend Job 38
from the OT, especially for the self-righteous ones out there.

Movie
banned for reflecting hardship in the Island Republic of Bananas?
Well, at least there were no banana cutter scenes shown.
Funny though that the church, which is responsible in a big way for
the gross overpopulation asked the Palace to shut down a movie that
could serve as a wake-up call to Filipinos on the hardships poverty
brings. Many of our countrymen are enjoined to have numerous offspring
yet are not capable of feeding them 3x a day. This movie bespeaks
the evils of our society. Who is to blame? Ask the men in robes. A
blow by blow (no pun intended) account on the movie's specs.

Miriam had claimed that she carries an 8mm pistol for
protection against well, just about everyone at this point. So far,
the investigators have only come up with Super 8, not a pistol, but
a video camera that dates back top the 70's. So please, nobody tell
her that the "gun" she thinks she is carrying is just a
video camera. We hope to reduce campaign violence so let's start with
this one.
Mad cow lady makes declaration; Morato applies for lease of the entire

to be sold at the festival.
