NTC Orders?   (Not gonna do it, wouldn't be prudent- PLDT) or, the nerve of that Joseph...

Nov 13, 1999 Manila.  In order for a speedy resolution to the telephone interconnection crisis which has consumers all over the country in a very miffed mode, NTC Comm. Joseph Santiago "ordered" PLDT to open  two E1 lines PLDT had shut down last week in an obvious move to block Globe calls from interconnection with PLDT lines.  So, after spending all that money on gargantuan full page ads, the truth was revealed by the NTC Commissioner himself- that PLDT was again squeezing the public by way of preventing Globe access to PLDT.  This,  despite an order from the NTC for PLDT to interconnect.  The NTC is the Gov't. body tasked to discipline the telcos.  It is yet unknown how Santiago, formerly a lawyer for PLDT, will word the demand letter to Pangilinan, and whether PLDT will follow his orders. After all, he is only a government official while they are still the PLDT.  Kudos to Santiago for  revealing to the public for once and for all that that it was indeed PLDT sabotaging the entire telephone system of the country.  Should not PLDT management be held liable for economic sabotage and some other laws?  They did cause a lot of inconvenience and possible losses in business opportunities in their desire to rule the Telecomm industry.  BACK TO MAIN PAGE
