Senators
Reject Move to Ban Cellphone Use
during Hearings.
Senator Tessie Oreta reportedly threatened to sue CORDLESS,
or Citizens Organization
Disgusted by Lawmakers' Endless Sellphone Socializing
for requesting that cellphones be banned inside the Senate Hall during
the Impeachment hearings. CORDLESS issued a statement to the effect
that "this law is applicable to Filipino students, who as we all know
are banned from using their cellphones during class", and "therefore
should be even more strictly enforced during the Hearing of the Century
in the Senate Hall as a shining example to the youth".
Many Senators, who are also judges of the Impeachment hearings, have
been observed to be constantly reading their text messages or taking
calls from either the Powers that Were or one of their newly hired pool
of lawyers. It is also widely becoming evident that many of the senators
do not know the basic rules of law, and have had to resort to this type
of cellular coaching to save what little face they have left as the
hearings are broadcast to the entire Filipino people.
The infamous Senator and official timekeeper of the hearings, former
Marcos Press Agent Kit Tatad had earlier tried to limit the people's
ability to observe the "public servants" by asking that Senators not
be shown on camera. Although many reportedly agree with Tatad in the
sense that the sight is indeed sickening, it is still a manifestation
of their inability to come to grips with reality. In the case of Tatad,
CORDLESS "fully supports the move to blur his face each time it
appears on the telecast to avoid trauma children suffer whenever he
announces the time ahead of time". In another instance, CORDLESS
says "Take for example the case of the two senators who cannot
tell the difference between a "TIP" (to insure promptness) and an outright
bribe. The two Senators, Oreta and John Osmena admitted receiving one
million pesos each during a sortie on the presidential yacht, "RPS Ang
Lagay Mo". However, the two bribe takers are also still sitting as Senators
AND judges in the trial of President Joseph Estrada for graft and corruption".
CORDLESS did not return calls to the editor as their PLDT line was "temporarily
out of service, getting ready for tapping".
